Trash or treasure
Bill Myers
We live in a community that has excellent trash pickup service.
Just about anything you leave out on the curb on trash day will
be hauled off. With this in mind, we placed several loads of unwanted items we
removed from our storage building on the curb for pickup. The local trash collectors hauled off everything . . . except a
pair of 3rd row car seats from my SUV. Since I didn't want to store these items, and since the trash
haulers wouldn't cart them off, I decided to try and sell them on
eBay. I took a photo of the seats, wrote up a brief description, and
placed a listing for the seats on eBay. The listing cost $1.85. To my surprise, several people bid on the seats, and within three
days I had them sold for $280 - and the buyer paid the shipping. Clearly the old saying, "one man's trash is another man's
treasure" is still true. And with eBay, it is easier than ever to find people who treasure
what you might consider trash. Next time, instead of setting it out on the curb for pickup, I'll
try to sell it on eBay first.
