Short attention span nation
Bill Myers
Want to be successful? Just unplug your TV. Doing so could give you 50 hours or more of free time a week. And it may also help you develop the focus needed to get important tasks completed. A recent study suggests that the amount of TV you watch is directly related to Attention Deficit Disorder. The study, conducted by researchers at the Children's Research Medical Center in Seattle, found that for every hour of TV watched daily, the chances of developing Attention Deficit Disorder went up by 10%. If you watch 5 hours of TV a day (which is the US national average), your chances of having Attention Deficit Disorder could be 50% greater than those of someone who only watches an hour of TV a day. So the next time you hear a successful person say, 'I don't watch much TV', you shouldn't be surprised. By not watching TV, that successful person has an extra 50 hours a week to do with as they please, and they probably haven't destroyed their ability to stay focused. You could gain the same advantage. Just turn off your TV, and focus on what is really important in life.
