Drop The Shovel
Bill Myers
There's an old saying, "When you find yourself in a hole, quit digging". This is especially true in business. If the methods you are using put you in a hole, you probably need to quit digging - quit using whatever methods put you in that hole. And take a break so you can figure out a way to climb out of the hole. A lot of people don't see it that way. Instead of looking for a way to climb out of the hole they dug, they look for a bigger shovel. A good example - a client came to us saying his marketing wasn't working. He wanted to make big changes. But he didn't want to change the marketing methods - he just wanted to do the same things on a larger scale. Basically, he wasn't willing to drop the shovel - he just wanted a way to dig a deeper hole, faster. Moral: When you find yourself in a hole, quit digging.
