Just tell me what I need to know
I recently purchased a DVD training course for a complicated software tool I needed to learn to use. The presenter on the course was clearly an expert. He seemed to know everything about the software and also the technology behind it. Unfortunately, instead of showing me only what I needed to know to use the software, the expert spent six hours telling me everything he knew about the product and the industry - in the greatest of detail. So what should have been an excellent how-to resource turned out to be a six hour 'bore-fest' that could have (and should have) been condensed into 45 minutes of valuable instruction. When creating info products, keep in mind that customers are paying you to make it easier to learn the product. Don't make them read hundreds of detailed pages or sit through hours of boring video. Just tell them what they need to know to accomplish the task at hand. Your customers will appreciate it and think of you next time they need another information product
