It seems like a lot of businesses these days are waiting for the next big thing, whatever that may be. The overall feeling seems to be that we're in a lull right now, and it is a good time to sit things out - waiting for the next big wave.

While riding the incoming wave of a new technology or consumer demand can be a good business strategy, doing nothing between the waves can be business suicide.

When other businesses are waiting it out (or worse, depleting valuable resources on acts of desperation), it can be a good time for you to 'wax your board' and get ready for the next big wave. It's also a good time to do a little housekeeping, like getting order taking and product delivery systems in shape, so when the tide starts coming back in, you're ready to head into the surf.

Don't let the slow times discourage you out of business.
