New DVD from Bill Myers - Metal Detecting Florida Beaches
bmyers.com | Tip of the Week | Reckless Disc-Regard Search

Reckless Disc-Regard
Bill Myers
Printer-Friendly Format

One of the quickest ways to destroy your brand new DVD player (the one connected to your television) is to play a DVD with a paper label.

The problem is DVDs spin so fast in the drives, that even a small wrinkle or slightly off center label can cause the the spinning disk to become out of balance, which can result in the burning out of the DVD drive motor as it tries to compensate for the out-of-balance DVD.

The good news is that all commercial DVD distributors know of this problem, and they won't ship DVDs with paper labels.

The bad news is that many independent DVD producers aren't aware of the problem, and do ship their DVDs to customers with paper labels affixed to the DVDs.

Play one of these DVDs with the paper labels, and the chances are pretty good you'll ruin your expensive DVD player.

If you are selling DVDs to customers, be sure you don't use a paper label on the DVD. Instead use a direct-to-DVD printer to print the title information on the DVD disk. Doing this saves you time and money and prevents customer rage when they discover your paper labeled DVD destroyed their DVD player.

For my review of a under $90 Direct to DVD thermal printer (which includes a video of me using the printer), see http://www.bmyers.com/public/571.cfm?sd=30
