New DVD from Bill Myers - Metal Detecting Florida Beaches

Sometimes you have to remind yourself . . .
Bill Myers

As a matter of policy, I take Thursdays off. That's the day I sleep late, or go out on the water, or just bum around.

The point is, I try not to do 'office' work on Thursdays (but sometimes, in spite of my best efforts, I end up working anyway).

So why do I try to take Thursdays off? Mainly to remind me that one of big benefits of being an independent product developer is that once you achieve a certain degree of success, you can set your own time table, your own schedule, your own list of things to do each day. And if you like, you can take Thursdays (or any other day that suits you) off . . .

Of course, having the freedom to choose which days you work doesn't mean you always excercise that freedom. Especially if you enjoy your work. I often find that when my 'Thursday off' rolls around, I'd really prefer to be in the office working on a project that has my attention rather than just goofing off in the real world.

But as they say, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. So, I try to take Thursdays off. When I do, I almost always find that I really look forward to working on Friday - on all the new projects I dreamed up while goofing off on Thursday.

Maybe we all should take Thursdays off . . . the world just might be a better place for it.
