Don't Reinvent the Wheel
Bill Myers
When you start any difficult task, don't start without a template for success. Here's how. Let's say you have to write a sales letter for a training workshop that you plan to conduct. So where do you start? One of the best places to start would be to gather up examples of effective sales letters written by others for their training workshops. By reading several successful sales letters before starting one of your own, you are likely to better understand the elements needed in your own sales letter for it to be effective. So where do you find those effective sales letters to review? Start by looking in your own mail. Get into the habit of filing sales letters that offer products or services similar to what you offer in the future. This reference file of actual sales letters can be a real gold mine when you need creative inspiration for your own sales letters. But a word of warning . . . before using any sales letter as a model, make sure it was recently effective in reaching the same audience you are targeting. Because just as following a 'model of success' can lead to your own success, following a 'model of failure' (in this cased a failed sales letter), can also lead to your failure. So before you start, find models of success. And use those as a guide to building your own success story.
