Get it Proofed!
Bill Myers
Printer-Friendly Format

You may think the page is perfect, but in your haste to get it online, you may have missed something that will cost you money.

We just added 25 products to our reprints rights site at http://www.sitebank.com

Before placing these products up on the site, we spent hours carefully checking all the pages to make sure everything was correct. When we finally placed these products on our site, we were certain the prices and descriptions were exactly as they should have been.

But we were wrong.

Only after getting the products online, and only after the orders started coming in, did we discover that on the best selling product we had shown one price, but were charging a much lower price when orders were actually processed.

We wouldn't have normally caught this error - but a customer brought it to our attention. He sent a message saying 'Thanks for the lower price - I expected to pay full price, but was pleased to get the unexpected discount."

Fortunately, we were able to catch the error in the first few days of the offer. Even so, this small typo cost us about $500. Had it gone unnoticed much longer, it could have cost us thousands in lost profits.

Moral of the story - no matter how well you think you proofread and double-checked pages on your web site, it is a good idea to get someone else to check everything for you.

Especially when it comes to product descriptions, prices, and order processing instructions - areas where even small mistakes can cost you a bundle.
