Your site - on a mobile phone?
Bill Myers - July 23, 2010
Printer-Friendly Format

If you have a web site, you absolutely need to spend some time surfing your site with a mobile phone. The reason is simple, and important.

A recent report suggests a growing number of people are spending more time surfing the web with their cell phones, than they do with their computers.

This means your own web site needs to be 'cell phone friendly' - or you may be losing many potential visitors and customers.

And its only going to get worse - as more and more people switch to smart cell phones and portable tablets to do most of their web surfing.

So unless you've checked your site and it's features with a cell phone, you may never discover problems that keep phone visitors from getting to your site.

For example, your site could require flash - which would exclude users of most current phones and tablets.

Or the page text could be too small, or the menu buttons hard to find and use.

Most of the problems are easily corrected - but only if you are aware of them.

So if you have a web site, make a point to spend time using the site with a cell phone.

Make note of any features that are difficult to use, and fix them as soon as possible.

Doing this now will make your site inviting to the millions of visitors who use phones and other portable devices to surf the web.

Note: My wife and I both use Droid smart phones to surf the web, and we have found just a few simple fixes makes using our sites with a phone a whole lot easier.
