Getting your products onto retail shelves
Bill Myers - July 9, 2010
One way to boost sales and develop a brand name is to get major retailers to carry and advertise your products for you. It can be done, but takes a little strategy It wasn't too long ago that almost every product purchased by consumers was purchased from either a retail store or from a print catalog. But the internet changed that. These days most of us rely on the internet for much of our product research and a lot of our purchases. Still, even with the internet, a majority of purchases are still made from retail stores and from product catalogs sent out by retailers. With this in mind, getting your product carried and promoted by traditional bricks & mortal retailers and catalogers can substantially boost your sales. This is especially true with DVDs, CDs, books and other physical products targeting a specific market. While it can be almost impossible to get your product onto the shelves of a retail giant like Walmart, you can often get large stores and independent chains to carry your products - if you use the right approach. As proof, I just had one of my DVDs picked up by the largest retailer and cataloger within my product niche, and it didn't involve much work on my part. Just an introductory letter, a product sample, an 8 X 10 glossy of the product, and attractive wholesale pricing. You can read all about this, and see the materials I used, in my article 'Getting your DVDs carried by retail stores and catalogers' in the members area of bmyers.com.
