Where great product ideas come from
Bill Myers - July 19, 2008
Printer-Friendly Format

Ever wonder where those really unique (and sometimes weird) product ideas come from?

Sure, some come from inspiration. But these days, at least in the corporate world, many great ideas come from a simple word mix machine.

Basically you dump in a few thousand words, click a button, and a random product idea is displayed.

And as crazy as it seems, sometimes these are pretty good ideas.

For example, I tested a product idea generator (geared for the corporate world), and it came up with these ideas:

- Electric Virtual Sanctuary - Exclusive Mobile Hotel - Mobile Modular Houses

While these ideas might not change the world, the ideas that are presented by the product idea machine are interesting.

If you'd like to try a product idea machine, there is a free one at http://www.tdbspecialprojects.com/

Just visit that site, and click the crossing arrows button to start generating product ideas.

While the results are somewhat limited, you'll get a good idea of what these simple word-mix tools can do.
