The Wisdom of Mark Twain and the toys of your youth
Remember that car you drove as a kid? Whether it was a Mustang, Camaro, Dart, Impala, Pinto, or Gremlin, chances are good that it would be worth far more today than it cost in your youth. In fact, some of the cars of the baby boomer youth, cars like a hemi Cuda, or a Shelby Mustang, or a Camaro Z28 are bringing millions of dollars at auction. Even the entry level cars of the baby boomer youth are sometimes bringing tens of thousands of dollars at auction. Search eBay Motors for Pintos, VW Things, Chevy Impalas, even the lowly Honda 600 (the first and smallest car Honda ever built), and you'll be amazed at what these things are selling for. So how can this benefit you? Well, as Mark Twain said, “the secret to success is to find out where everyone is going and get there first.” To me, this means 'find out what other people (with money) want to buy, and try to have it for sale when they are ready to buy'. If you can do that, you can do well in life. And since it appears that Baby Boomers with money want to buy the cars they drove in their youth, it can pay to help them do just that. Next time you see an old car sitting for sale, don't just ignore it. Find out what that car is selling for on eBay, and compare it to what the owner is asking. You just might stumble on a real (profitable) bargain.
