How to lose customers without even trying
Earlier this week I called our DVD supplier to order another 1,000 DVDs. My call was placed on hold while our account rep was located. While on hold, I was stunned to hear a stream of profanities and obscenities being screamed at me - via the 'music on hold' system the company uses. Unbeknownst to management, the phone receptionist had set the 'music on hold system' to play a radio station featuring 'gangsta rap' music. Very offensive, very loud, peppered with profanity, and likely to upset many callers not accustomed to this kind of 'music'. I was tempted to hang up and take my business elsewhere - and would have if my account rep hadn't quickly picked up. If it happens again, they will probably lose me as a customer. It should be common sense - if you use a music on hold system,
make sure the music you select doesn't drive customers away.
